Original sounds that come with BFD-2 do not compare to the level velocity layers .... of extensions?



Is it possible to upgrade the original sounds of the original package arrive BFD-2
So that they are the same quality in terms of velocity layers?

In addition:
Are extensions - BFD Deluxe Collection | BFD Percussion
They have the same quality velocity layers as new extensions?

I'm not 100% percent sure but wasn't the original DVD 96 velocity layers too.
I'm not sure if all the expansion packs have higher (or even lower) velocity layers but the deluxe kit has up to 128.
Some of the platinum samples kit pieces can have up to 256 layers.


I'm pretty sure you can't upgrade or add extra velocity layers to the kits that come with either the DVDs or the current download version of BFD2. If that were possible I'm sure you would have had that option when you bought them and not afterwards.
Did you install the full version of BFD2 with full velocity layers?
Are you saying you can hear a big difference?

There is a significant difference in terms of sensitivity to the force of 0-127 Velosety!
I installed the basic package FULL - but there is no difference.

Try to compare each sample (for example) SNER, HH, TOM - a series of new extensions
Compared to the package that comes with BFD-2 and realize how sensitive to sounds of extensions have
Compared to the package of BFD-2.

Or I'm still not doing something right or that the samples just not the same basic quality of sensitivity.

And again
I mean just the sounds that come with the package of BFD-2
No other extensions ...

Not sure I understand but surely "0-127 is the midi velocity range and does NOT relate to the number of velocity layers.

Whether you have 30 velocity layers (abbey road modern drummer) or 256 (platinum samples) the midi velocity range
will still be 0-127. Always has been and likely always will be.

As I said, BFD2 has always been advertised as 96 velocity layers with the exception of the deluxe expansion packs
that offer up to 128 velocity layers.

Can you please be a little more specific? What "extensions" are your referring to? Are you talking about expansion packs for BFD2? Other plug-ins?

The velocity range in BFD2 refers to how hard the articulation of each kit piece was hit and not how loud the kit it. You can adjust the VelToAmp settings for your kit, if this is what you are referring to?

As well, if you are listening to a preset that contains compression on it, that will affect any type of dynamic levels.

If you just take two samples:
SNER - package of BFD-2
SNER - new extensions ...

Now playing on the keyboard all the sound separately and feel the difference in sensitivity of the sample ...!

In addition:
If you go to the library of computer files - the method used up to see different extensions
The system of sounds that come with BFD-2 in terms of layers.

No one is disputing the fact that there will be a difference between 96 and 256 velocity layers.
If there wasn't a difference then platinum samples and others would be out of business in a few weeks.
As I said, you can't upgrade the data/samples that ship with BFD2. If you're not happy with 96 velocity layers
you will need to get your self some expansion packs.
As I said, the Deluxe expansion kit has (up to) 128 velocity layers as for other expansion packs you'll need to read the FAQ's.
I'm not sure if all the platinum Samples kits are 256 velocity layers or which ones are which ones aren't.

I'm my opinion certain styles of playing and styles of music will benefit more than others from the extra layers.
Punk and Metal probably doesn't need much more the 10 velocity layers ''
The reason BFD2 comes with 3 install options, (light, medium & full) is because a lot of their customers struggle to
run BFD2 at 96 layers let alone 256.
I'm wondering are there any other "drumplers" out there that you know of that have more layers and detail
and if so which ones?

And I also bought them all ...!
After I purchased them (only then) I felt I needed in terms of possibility
Sensitivity of samples to play weak/strong level I can play music styles
Requiring it such as: JAZZ ....

I have left to wait for it:
BFD-3 so that all sounds will be on a par with all the expansion packs.

I'm very happy with them too. Your first post seemed like you were complaining which I thought was odd given what
your other options are with other drumplers.

I have a number of feature requests for BFD3 but I'm not sure that more velocity layers are amongst my priorities.

Are you referring to the BFD expansion packs or something outside of BFD2?

I understand your point rather well. There's supposed to be a difference. We're talking about different kit pieces, different engineers, different recording methods, and in some cases use of processing. Not every kit piece is suitable for all genres of music. As well, not every articulation in every piece has the same number in velocity layers. BFD has algorithms to decide which layers are used within certain velocities.

Other things that will factor into sensitivity is whether these were played with any FX on BFD's mixer.

I speak only of the samples package you get when you purchase the BFD-2 ...!
All new expansions come out in 2011 or a little before they are much higher quality!

And obviously we're talking about only samples regardless of any effects or other sound processing.
