Soundcard issues?

(EDITED) Hey everyone, BFD2 was working fine. I moved, set everything back up, and now every time I open BFD2 it says: "Audio error [#2] - couldn't open the audio stream. Perhaps another application is using the sound card?" My M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R is plugged into a front USB port a...

Considering that the Pearl Masterworks Kicks is one of the go-to stock pieces, I was somewhat compelled to listen to your mix. If anything, it sounds like you just threw the kick in and expected the best. Like Drew said, there's way to much ambient channel in there. As well, the kick is also very m...

Yeah, I may look into the downloadable kits. I gave the stock Pearl bass drum my best shot, and it's alright, but it still doesn't have the attack I'd like. You can give 'em a listen if you want: http://www.myspace.com/rejectconvention

I tried playing around with the kicks and envelope filter. I ended up back with the Yamaha kick. The envelope filter is alright. It doesn't track extremely well, but at mild settings it works well enough. In case my username didn't tip you off, I play punk rock upwards of 200 bpm. The reason I'm whi...

If you are auditioning the kick with a lot of ambience (which is often the case with BFD2), a lot of the attack can get lost. And, like I said previous, because BFD2's kit pieces are raw, you need to do some processing to bring out the attack. I'm not disagreeing with you as I've realized that the ...

There are already a bunch of kicks using wood and rubber beaters. I went through all the kicks in BFD2 and I could've sworn that all the bass drums had a soft attack. I can't find any information on what beaters were used on each bass drum, but none of them really sounded like they were using woode...

OK, I think I get it. It sounds like the perfect tracking compressor for transient control. I tried using the envelope filter in my DAW after recording and I was like, "Crap, this will take 2 hours just to do a crappy job applying this envelope to every bass drum hit." I'll give this a try...

Thanks for the reply. Will the envelope shaper react PER HIT, or is a "timing" type of thing like a compressor? I can adjust a compressor to bring out the attack, but it doesn't work for all the hits as some go by much faster in succession than others.

better bass drum attack

Does anyone know how to get better bass drum attack? Right now I have to double the bass drum and use psycho compression to sort of simulate just the sound of a beater hitting the head. Were ANY of the BFD2 bass drums recorded with a wooden beater, or are they all felt? Are there any options I can u...

Cutting off

BFD2 is working properly and I figured out how to record with it. However, sometimes I get my decays cut off abruptly. This is most noticable on the crash cymbals. This doesn't happen a lot, but happens at least once per song when recording. Does anyone know what is causing this? Thanks.

So I load BFD2 as a VSTi plugin in Audition 3.0, and it loads up the bass drum, snare, and part of the floor tom and tells me I've run out of RAM. Oooookayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy... I reset it, close and try it again. This time it loads up the bass drum and snare and tells me I've run out of RAM. What the he...

Thanks for the replies, guys. drdrum, it's good to get some reassurance that my computer can indeed handle BFD2 just fine. It seems that single hits and simple beats record fine, but more complex parts have issues with all the hits being picked up (which is only evident during playback.) jord, all m...

Recording trouble

I've gotten BFD2 to work with Audition 3.0, but something weird is going on. I can monitor the kit I loaded and edited in real time when recording, but when I play the track back, apparently only some of the hits got recorded, because not everything plays back and it sounds really choppy and bad. I ...

I'd like to know about this also. I'd rather use other plugins and have more sonic control over each individual kit piece. I use Audition 3.0.

Kick drum stuff

Now that BFD2 is playing nice with my Dtxtreme IIs I'd like to figure out how to get a better sound from the bass drum. I've figured out the damping, tuning, dynamics, mic sends, and all that stuff. Is it just me or are the bass drums lacking a lot of sub frequencies? Do you guys have much luck with...
