Hi, the Perf controls are in fact assigned by default - default assignments are Perf1=modwheel, Perf2=aftertouch. If they're not assigned currently, it seems as though these would be good choices for the controller you are using.

You can assign the control to a MIDI CC (on a knob-box like a Korg Nanokontrol for example) and tweak it live. But if you're talking about automation 'tracks' - no, this isn't possible.

You'll need to set the session prefs as required, then save the current state as a preset. Then specify that preset as the Startup preset (in the Data preferences) - the preset will be loaded whenever you launch BFD2. It won't affect any previous songs/presets though.

Check out page 35 of the manual - the clock divider is the 'Tempo Multiplier', labelled TEMPO on the Engine Setup panel.

I think it comes down to taste... I personally prefer staying at 2x for both realtime and render. I think Strobe can sound nicely raw at 1x too. There are no rules - use your ears :)

The manual is organized this way because chapter 1 is designed to introduce most aspects of the software you need to get up and running. The later chapters fill in additional 'power user' detail but generally don't duplicate any info from chapter 1.
