Forum "new posts" bug?

Postby n0rd » Fri Aug 10, 2012 12:01 pm

Hi, it seems every time I log in to FXpansion forum there are no new posts. At first I thought that it may just be a (very) quiet forum but looking at the dates this isn't true.

Anyone know what the issue is or how to fix it?

Steve

Actually, I've noticed the same. Will poke the web team and see what noises they make.

I've been getting this for a fair while as well. I think I've found a workaround though. It seems to be if you login at the forum page it'll clear the new posts, but if you login from http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php then click the 'Forum' link, it'll take you to the forum but show the unread posts.

Would you be able to test it out to confirm (or deny) that this works for you as well?

The above workaround seems to work. I'll have to try it a few times and see if it still works at a later date.

Thanks,

Steve

Interesting... cheers for letting me know!

Rory - reckon you'd be able to pass the info on to the web team? Might've narrowed it down a bit!

It might be that these two are unrelated but when reading this I had noticed this happen to me from time to time and it's been happening a lot more frequently of late.

I wonder if the reason might be that some of us are being logged out as soon as we close our browsers ?
This is what's been happening to me in both firefox and chrome and after a day or two I was unable to log back in.
I kept entering my details but would get the, "invalid user name or password message.

I decided to change my password in the hope it might fix it and for about a day it seemed to work and I remained
logged in but now it's doing it again. It's completely mystifying but internet explorer does seem to be a little better.
I tried safari but had the same problem. Right now as I type I can't log in at all in firefox so I'm writing this in chrome.

I don't know if it's a problem at my end or the forum end but I suspect the latter as it doesn't happen on any other site or forum. Also, for the last day or so I have been sorted another BFD2 user who lives near me and setting up his computer for him with an upgrade to windows 7. He gave me his username and password and I find that he is also being logged out after closing the browser.

You'd think once you were logged in you would stay logged in but earlier I logged in with firefox and as a test I opened internet explorer and I was logged out ?
Very confused :?

Recently I was completely unable to log in - it would give me an incorrect password message. I've since changed it, and am able to log in fine. But if I type in the wrong password, it just sends me back to the main forum page, not logged in, but without telling me why!

Still getting 'No new posts', too.

This seemed to have gone away for a while but Ive had it again for the past month. Every time I go straight to the forums page it asks me to login, it never remembers me. Then after ive logged in there are no posts marked as new

It's still doing it here too.
I stay logged in whilst I have my browser open but as soon as I close it I get logged out.

Still getting this problem over here, just accidentally wiped all the unread posts by logging in at the wrong place!

On another website issue, every time I middle click on a topic to open the thread in a new tab, it opens in the current window as well. Is it possible to stop this from happening? It's only this site and maybe a couple of other I've found that do this, most others work as expected and open the clicked thread in a new tab and leaving the current tab, which is handy for opening the all the new threads you want to read in one go.

I've just discovered that the middle click problem in the post above only occurs when clicking threads from the 'New Posts' link at http://www.fxpansion.com/forum/search.p ... d=newposts

Middle clicking threads from the inside the sub-forums works as expected.

A new problem though, is that threads will still show the unread posts flag after I've read them, and also after I've posted in them.

Still got this going on - finding that sometimes it'll take me 8 separate click stages before I get to see the forum new posts!

Think this might be fixed now! I've remained logged in for a number of days, and I think the new posts counter is working as it should now. :)

Anyone else able to confirm?
