BFD2 v2.3.0.15 PUBLIC BETA RELEASED ...With 64-bit support.

Postby rob_fx (ex-FX) » Wed Jul 13, 2011 12:42 pm

Hi all,

This is a public beta of the forthcoming BFD2 v2.3. While it is relatively stable, some caution should be advised before installing this build prior to committing to any kind of critical project. If you're running BFD2 in a "professional environment" or whatever, wait until v2.3 out of beta before upgrading. It's that simple.

We're currently looking at some obscure graphic glitches and odd window focus anomalies that we're aiming to resolve in the next few days. You may experience some strange behavior if you try to run the stand-alone app and plug-in at the same time. We've never advocated doing this anyway, so we're just reiterating here that it's still not an approved practice.

Prerequisites:
* The v2.2.2 data-patch has been applied via any of the BFD2 v2.2 combo updates. Failure to do this will silence the Amb3 buses of the BFD2 library drums and silence the metronomes.

BFD2 v2.3 has the following enhancements:
* 64-bit Windows 7 support
* 64-bit OSX 10.6 support

Note also:
* No PowerPC support
* No OSX 10.4.x support

### WINDOWS USERS ###

Standard Windows 32-bit install paths are:
%root%\Program Files\FXpansion\BFD2
%root%\Program Files\VSTPlugins (unless redirected by your host)

Standard Windows 64-bit install paths are:
%root%\Program Files\FXpansion\BFD2
%root%\Program Files (x86)\FXpansion\BFD2
%root%\Program Files\VSTPlugins
%root%\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins (unless redirected by your host)

E.g. Steinberg 64-bit Windows users will find that BFD2 x64 VST will want to install to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2

Whereas the BFD2 x86 VST will still install to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins

BFD2's resource files are shared between the 32-bit and 64-bit application binaries in the "Program Files (x86)" folder path.

### MACINTOSH USERS ###

To run Mac standard-alone in either 32-bit or 64-bit mode, CTRL+click or right-click on the BFD2 app bundle and select Get Info. Ensure that your have checked or unchecked the application property "Run in 32-bit mode".

To run the Mac plug-in in 64-bit mode ensure that you are running your host in 64-bit mode using the same above method on the host's app bundle.

AUVal needs to run a separate scan to validate the BFD2's AU plug-in for either bit-mode.

### DID I MENTION THAT BFD2 HAS GONE 64-BIT? ###

WOW! Awesome- 64 bit. Guys you hoodwinked us (under promise/ over deliver). I at least thought that I would have to wait for BFD 3.

One day when this is all over I'll publish my memoirs and you'll all get to hear how this came about.

No hoodwinking... it's called management of expectations. :mrgreen:

Hi guys...
Just installed and it's working really well, with one minor issue. It appears that the 64bit AU is crashing AUVal in Logic 64bit.
If you over ride the AU Val tool, it is actually working fine and the log displays that everything's passed. It's crashing the AUVal tool however. Strange.

Here's the AUVal log:

....Errrr... never mind.. I've forced it to pass validation. Not sure what was going on there! (I will leave the previous post for a while, just on case somebody else has the issue.)

@mattrixx - should be good in Logic, we've been doing extensive testing in it. Will check out teh auval thing tho - it's been a few weeks since I checked that, and it is often a lot more finnicky!

@All - Also, please note that this build should be a lot better behaved with multiple instances. Lots of changes under the hood to allow that.

Ran auval over here without having to force validation, everything passed with no crashes.
