No MP3 import?

Postby rafalrudawski » Thu Nov 18, 2010 7:52 pm

Just been plying around again with Geist. Is there still no MP3 import?

A lot of my samples are mp3 format (old vinyl etc) and I cannot load them into Geist. I remember something being said about mp3 import was possibly going to be added to Guru but never was. Will it be added to Gesit?

Well done on the programme btw. It IS basically Guru minus the randomizer and with a slightly better browser but good job anyway

Get an mp3 to wav converter.. or sample the file using the sampler.. I had a large number of mp3's at one point, and converted them to wave.. Took about a terabyte hd to do it correctly.. 8) and a few days... now it's done though my 2cts..

Internally geist supports MP3. Unfotunately the LAME license means we cant distribute it (and the user installer is tricky for the version we use). I hope to add support i the future....

I'm a happy Guru owner and I really liked the geist demo so far... :) Missing MP3 support is the only thing that stopped me from buying as I really love to shredder my mp3 collection to lil pieces... :D Still using Liveslice.dk until geist MP3 support arrives.

Any news on this topic? I'd be happy to betatest... ;-)

Cheers!

Has there been any update on this?

The suggested workarounds (mp3->wav converter, using sampler) are all fine, but both really muss up an otherwise near-perfect workflow.

I'm afraid not... :( Was hoping for an update to cover this, but it looks we're not going to see mp3 support any time soon. To bad... 'cause that's really what could have made geist my swiss army knife for sampling & resampling. :) Always switching to manual conversion is a real creativity killer...

Cheers!

In my capacity as a user and not an FXpansion rep - I recommend DBPowerAmp if you're on Windows. It's a fantastic utility for converting audio formats.

It used to be freeware, I thought! Looks like it's changed a little now. Great software though.

Found this link to an older, freer version.

And this link seems to say it's freeware, but the encoder plugin is not. The LAME codec is freeware though, so you can use that with it.

Can you give us instructions on where to place the LAME codec for those that are willing to venture getting MP3 support on their own?
