The BFD3 Preset Thread

Postby Drew_BFDTeam » Mon Sep 30, 2013 8:46 am

No doubt once you start sinking your teeth in, you're going to come up with presets that you want to share - please do that here! You'll have to ZIP up the preset/kit/grooves and add as an attachment, or use good old Dropbox.

Alright ... 8)

i made some new BFD3 start-up presets for me, named after the manufacturers
without any effects and just slightly adjusted ambiences:

DW Mardi Gras Sparkle Kit 01 (Paiste).bfd3
DW Mardi Gras Sparkle w6 Toms Kit 01 (Paiste).bfd3
Gretsch Purple Kit 01 (Paiste).bfd3
Ludwig Stainless Steel Kit 01 (Paiste).bfd3
Mapleworks Brushes Kit w6Toms 01 (Bosphorus).bfd3
Mapleworks Mallets Kit w6Toms 01 (Bosphorus).bfd3
Mapleworks Sticks Kit 01 (Paiste).bfd3
Mapleworks Sticks Kit w6Toms 01 (Bosphorus).bfd3
Pork Pie Black Sparkle Kit 01 (Paiste).bfd3

and ... in each preset five snares "played" one after another:
BFD3 Snare Hit Compare 01.bfd3
BFD3 Snare Hit Compare 02.bfd3

and ... two beginners bonus presets, one with a "user sampled drum"

Probably someone will find them useful, too.

Here are some more drummer maps for Logic Pro X to use with BFD3. There are a number of variations based on the hi-hat. There are both fixed tip and shank variants and there are a couple of variable tip and shank maps. Note, however, that the MIDI CC for varying the hi-hat is the Modulation Wheel as these maps are not for eDrum kits. They were made for Logic Pro X drummer tracks.

I also included a sample kit which matches up to Logic Drummer track. The percussion makes use of the percussion packs. Note that this is just one kind of kit that can be used, as there are plenty of ways to use Logic's Drummer track.

Have fun

I kept meaning to post this but for one reason or another got sidetracked. So, here is a default drum map for Cubase that is set up to the default BFD3 keymap.

Here's a preset to use with our Brush Grooves (Real Jazz) using the BFD3 Mapleworks kit.

BOMB Chimes Chromatic

Postby jmcecil » Sat Nov 02, 2013 10:40 pm

Here is a Chromatic kit of the BOMB Chimes. I'm working my way through various perc kit setups. I'll upload them as time permits. Obviously you have to have BOMB for these to work.

There is a chromatic keymap to go with it.

Hi, I´m coming from BFD 2 and I have to say I´m a bit underwhelmed by the out of the box presets. I feel most are pretty dry compared with the BFD2 presets I used to start a session with. And I also find it harder to control the ambient channels in BFD3.

It took me a while to get up to speed with BFD2, so it would be awesome if you guys could share some of your go to presets with us new comers.

:D

JBlongz BFD Presets

Postby jblongz » Mon Jan 06, 2014 7:21 pm

Here is my keymap which replicates NI Drummer format. I dug deeply into the velocity settings to make the kit very responsive to keyboard touch. My presets offer some routing ideas with the toms.

NOTE: You may have to change the output of the kit pieces because I route them to independent outputs in Vienna Ensemble Pro.

Enjoy!

purtington wrote:I agree, I thought the presets were very, "vanilla" with very little processing but in their defence I think that was intentional.

I sometimes like to mash up my drums and use lots of effects but the point of having lot's of presets that are virtually unprocessed or with very limited processing is I guess to illustrate just how natural sounding these new kits are and how they can sit very well in a mix with minimal tweaking. I just checked out Rails preset above this post and there are NO effects included at all and I have to say it sounds great without them. There's no groove with it either so you'll have to experiment.

I would like to have seen a wider range of more progressive modern genres and styles represented in their presets.

I've always been very impressed at the range and number of presets that shipped with Addictive Drums but disappointed at how cheap they sound which is partly due to the poor effects included. I would have hoped to see something more like the AD presets in BFD3 but obviously sounding much better.

I shall get round to posting some soon but they certainly won't be to everyone's taste.

What genres are you interested in particularly ?

Great stuff, folks. Keep them coming :-)

I'm not into any genres in particular. The factory preset I enjoyed the most was by far the Technical metal preset.
I'm into pretty aggressive attacks, kicks with some high end bite, and punchy snares with some ambiance/tales. Some out there ideas with lots of effects would be interesting as well.

Here's my current ´default´preset. Hope you guys like it.
