Basically, you download a hotfix file, which is a windows standalone update. Then, go into control panel - administrative tools, and go into services. Stop and then start the windows update service. Then run the hotfix. After doing this I immediately got my windows update to instantly find an update and install it.
IMHO this should not be a sticky as the standard advice is to update via Windows update (nb this does not appear to be a hotfix, rather a normal update). If you are having problems with Windows Update then that's a Windows issue not Geist IMHO.I think resetting Windows update would have downloaded this update as well.
Another thing I would consider is updating to Windows 10 (there's just 2 months to go).
